A fighter in the ring not only relies on his innate skills to outwit his opponent throughout a grueling boxing match, but also cherishes the advice from his corner. Since 2007, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta has had the privilege to work with the legendary Coach Bumpy Parra. Coach Bumps was California’s Bantamweight Champion from 1965 to 1967, and then turned his intuitive boxing skills into training other prospects. On October 20th, 2012, Coach Bumps will be inducted to the 2012 California Boxing Hall of Fame at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, California.
Coach Bumps was introduced to Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta in 2007 while training former World Champion Cruz Carvajal for a southpaw fight. As sparring began, Coach Bumps was very impressed with the fast and furious boxing skills of Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta. As the relationship grew, Coach Bumps began working with Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta and has always been available for advice and support. As quoted by his proud son Coach Vince Parra, “His experience is priceless in the corner. He believes Mercito can be great one day and enjoys being there to see it happen.”
Experience is priceless in the boxing world. As Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta stated, “Coach Bumps is a veteran of the sport and I admire his advice as he knows boxing in and out. He is a great training and it is good to have him while I train.” In addition, Coach Bumps has been an inspiration to not only Team Gesta, but also to the boxing community as seen in these PHOTOS.
Congratulations to Coach Bumps!! A well deserved recognition for a true boxing champion.
